Be authentic, make a difference, and help others along the way - just some of the reflections from this year's Community Enrichment Scholarship recipients. This Greylock scholarship provides students within the community with opportunities for a financial award as they embark on their higher education and/or vocational journey.
"Greylock realizes that one person is all it takes to make a difference in the community. By fostering young minds, we demonstrate our commitment to making a positive impact," said Jennifer Connor Shumsky, Assistant Vice President, Community Support and Events. "We recognize the value, and cost, of continuing education and are doing our part to make this goal attainable for more students."
This scholarship is awarded to students who exemplify a positive spirit, demonstrate respect for their peers, and who are determined to give back to their community to help it thrive.
Greylock awards high school senior students from each public high school in Berkshire and Columbia counties a scholarship to be applied toward tuition at a state or nationally accredited two-or-four-year college/university. Two scholarships are also awarded to high school seniors who will enroll in a two-year program at an accredited technical, vocational or trade school.
For Edward Ferris, one of this year's recipients and graduate of Taconic High School, the scholarship award reflected his community's support for his goals.
"Beyond reducing the cost of college and allowing me to focus on my studies, this scholarship is a reminder that my community believes in me and is willing to invest in my goals," said Ferris.
Scholarship recipient Kyana Summers, a graduate of Pittsfield High School, said that she's excited to embark on her academic journey toward her professional goals.
"I hope to use my degree to make a difference in the community by helping my (future) patients and supporting them as they get better," said Summers.
Ferris also shared how he hopes to impact his community in the future.
"I hope to give back by mentoring young people interested in the trades and supporting local organizations that have helped me along the way," said Ferris.
Ava McLear, a 2026 scholarship recipient and graduate of Hoosac Valley High School, encouraged future applicants to be authentic.
"Advice I would give to others applying for this scholarship is to be yourself. Show who you really are and be passionate. If you believe in yourself then that is all you need," said McLear.
Applications will open Feb. 1, 2027, for scholarships awarded for the 2027-28 academic year. More information on Greylock's scholarship, including application details and eligibility, can be found here.
